Because of my personal commitments I don’t always have the time to do things that I would rather be doing. However, that’s the way the cookie crumbles etc. But on this particular occasion I was lucky enough to be able to get an hour away, to attend my local Camera Club. A local couple -Steve and Debbie Richards – who are members of the Wales Hawking club and who are totally dedicated to their birds, had agreed to come along to the club and bring with them a couple of the birds of prey.
I had a wonderful time and took simply hundreds of pics. I know these birds are not in the wild, and the ultimate for the wildlife photographer is get the shot in the wild, but as far as I am concerned just to be in the same room as these birds was a privilege. The first photo I am posting to day is of a Red Tailed Hawk, he was absolutely mesmerising. I will post some of the better other pics as and when. One of the interesting things I notices was, with all the photographers milling about and taking snaps, the birds always had one eye on Steve and or Debbie. Debbie told me later, that the Harris hawk that sat on Steve’s arm nearly all night, is like a pet dog, in as much as that at home and in the field it follows Steve everywhere.
